Do the historic thing, President Joe Biden. Give the Democratic Party our independence.

It would be the most powerful executive order the world has ever seen. It is completely within your power to give America its first female president. Grant history this gift. Grant this gift to your legacy. It would complete a solid career-defining and democracy-celebrating set of services.

You were the first man to follow a black man into the Oval Office, the first vice president to serve under a black president. You were the first president to serve with a black vice president and the first president to serve with a female vice president. What better way to complete this progressive apotheosis than handing over the reins to your same extremely capable and fully prepared professional partner? Leave it to Kamala Harris to become the first female president of the United States. Let it be on her terms, with her blessing. Don’t let this evolve. Take advantage of the magnitude and potential of this moment. It would be the most noble and transformative gesture that many of us could imagine. Open the field again, as you seemed to indicate that you would when you ran for the first time. Let Vice President Harris accompany us to the convention in August, and then let the delegates look at the pool with new eyes and decide who will accompany us until November.

If you drag us through the next five months, most of us will stick with you, but we will be tired, disappointed and let down by what can only begin to look like a degree of arrogance on the part of your campaign. And if the outcome is not what we hope, the good-hearted, values-oriented bipartisan spirit of your last 40 years will be reduced to the one truth that you lead us into an unknown abyss of four more years with a man who is, by all scrupulous accounts, an enemy of the constitution and democracy itself.

We trust you. We are placing our hope in your hands once again. You are already a creator of history and a man of loyalty, competence and courage. Surprise us all with one last act of profound service, optimism, and imagination. Do what the other side expects you not to do. See the past ego in the world of elemental legacy. What I ask now is a historic act of humility, self-sacrifice and good faith. Don’t risk falling into the fight when there are ready and capable standard bearers, still fresh for the race, and who can lead the team to a more decisive victory. At least then, no matter the outcome, we will know that you did everything you could and, more importantly, we will know that you are still a man capable of being moved by the will of your people, and a good man for your people. first word.
