The time has come for President Joe Biden to retire after stumbling in last week’s debate and failing to assure the American people that he is fit for four more years, a former Obama official said.

Monday’s Supreme Court ruling that Donald Trump has absolute immunity from prosecution for “official acts” while the president should also signal to Biden that it’s time to “ride off into the sunset,” he advised.

It turns out that Representative Lloyd Doggett became, on Tuesday, the first Democrat in Congress to officially call for Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

Brett Bruen, a former adviser to Barack Obama, told The US Sun that the Supreme Court ruling is a sign to Democrats of what they could lose if they keep Biden in the race.

“All these [decisions] “It should serve as a reminder to Democrats and all Americans alike that we stand tenuously on the edge of an abyss into which we will fall unless we have someone who can offer a clear and convincing alternative to Donald Trump,” Bruen said.

“Joe Biden is not the man. I like him personally, I enjoyed serving with him – but it’s time for him to ride off into the sunset and enjoy his retirement.”

Bruen said Democrats are in a “chaotic state of confusion” with no “clear path forward” ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

“Frankly, we do not have a plan that can be used reliably to win this election, not just the presidency, but both chambers of Congress, as well as countless state and local races,” he said.

“We are in a state of ridiculous limbo where everything depends on one individual who stubbornly sticks around because he, his family members and close advisors believe, out of a false sense of entitlement, that his appointment is rightfully theirs.

“And it comes at the expense of the party, our most cherished principles and, frankly, the will of the majority of Democrats and American voters.”

IMMUNITY FOR OFFICIAL ACTS

In a historic 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruling declared that former presidents have absolute immunity from prosecution for their “official acts” but no immunity for unofficial acts.

The case will be sent back to the lower courts to decide what counts as an official act as president — meaning Trump could still go to trial in Washington DCwhere he faces federal charges related to conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election while in office.

It is unclear whether he will face federal charges at trial. However, presidents can still be prosecuted for acts committed in a personal setting.

REACTIONS TO THE DECISION

Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson voted against the majority decision.

Justice Sotomayor called the decision a “mockery” of the American justice system in her dissent, adding that the president is now “a king above the law.”

Biden himself called the Supreme Court decision one of the “darkest days in American history.”

He said allowing Trump certain immunities means there are “virtually no limits to what a president can do.”

After the immunity decision, Trump is now arguing for his May 30 conviction to be annulled.

The former president shared news of the decision on his social media platform Truth Social, calling it a “huge victory for our Constitution and democracy.”

He also said he is “proud to be an American!”

His lawyers sent a letter to judge Juan Merchan asking for the conviction to be overturned just hours after the ruling.

Merchan, who oversaw the historic silent trial in New York City, has not yet ruled on Trump’s new plea or ordered his sentence.

DISASTROUS DEBATE

Monday’s Supreme Court ruling came just days after the election’s first presidential debate ended in disaster after Biden stumbled through sentences and appeared to freeze on stage several times.

Biden’s poor debate performance has sparked growing concerns among Democrats that the president will be unable to defeat Trump in November.

“We saw on Thursday night what a congenital liar and cheat Trump is,” Bruen said.

“Yet somehow all these fantastic distortions and deceptions he perpetrated were overshadowed by Biden’s abominably poor performance.”

Who is Brett Bruen?

Brett Bruen served as a US diplomat for 12 years.

Currently President of the Global Situation Room, Bruen previously served as the former Director of Global Engagement during the Obama administration.

Throughout his time at the White House, the advisor built several of President Obama’s international initiatives.

He now teaches crisis communication at Georgetown University.

Bruen went on to say that Biden’s “age and inability to communicate” could become a “bigger story” — or “at least as bad a story” — as Trump’s criminal convictions and legal battles.

“So we really have to rethink our strategy because the story shouldn’t be about our failures, but about his deep, deep unsuitability for the presidency.”

CAN IT BE REPLACED?

While members of the Democratic Party are calling for Biden to resign, other voters are wondering whether it is even possible to replace the current president.

There are several ways Democrats could impeach Biden — and one of them is to invoke the 25th Amendment.

Ratified in 1967, the 25th Amendment says Biden’s cabinet can remove him from office if the vice president and a majority of the administration determine he is unfit to serve.

This measure would allow Vice President Kamala Harris to become acting president of the United States.

WHO COULD REPLACE HIM?

Democrats could also eliminate Biden from the race by choosing another candidate before the Democratic National Convention on August 19.

Forcing Biden out would mean delegates would choose another candidate — and there are a few options, but no serious Democratic challenger has stepped forward.

Potential replacements for the Democratic presidential nominee, in addition to Harris, include California Governor Gavin Newsom, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, failed 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and more state representatives.

AGE ISSUES ARE AT THE FRONT OF MIND

The former Obama adviser warned that after the debate, concerns about Biden’s age may be on voters’ minds rather than problems with Trump’s candidacy.

“These issues have now been brought to the forefront,” Bruen said of concerns regarding Biden’s age and competence.

“So they are in the minds of voters who see January 6th, who even see Trump’s conviction in a New York court as being a little more distant, a little more diluted in their memory than what appears in the television screens and continues to happen on social media.”

BIDEN FIGHTS BACK

The day after the debate, Biden quickly addressed the backlash and called for him to stop running for president.

“I know I’m not a young man, to state the obvious,” Biden told a crowd in North Carolina on Friday.

“Guys, I don’t walk as calmly as I used to, I don’t speak as well as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to.

“But I know what I know. I know how to tell the truth, I know right from wrong.”

Despite his apparently confident response, the President reportedly spent the weekend holding talks about the crisis with his family to discuss his re-elected future.

Bruen predicts the next few days will be “revealing” in terms of the path Biden’s campaign will take.

Assuming Biden remains the nominee, the next agreed-upon debate between Trump and Biden is scheduled for September 10.
