COPS today ordered the closure of a right-wing conference in Brussels – while Nigel Farage was speaking to the crowd.

The Brexit supremo was speaking at the National Conservatism meeting when Brussels district police notified organizers of a ban on the local mayor.

A police spokesperson said they were taking “all necessary operational measures to prevent public disturbances”.

Anti-fascist protesters planned to protest there later in the day, but organizers say the justification is “absurd” and an example of “cancel culture”.

Farage criticized “absolutely monstrous” attempts to cancel the conference.

He told the crowd as he stood before them: “I understand the police are very interested in putting an end to this.

“Well, in that case they can do it while I’m still on stage.”

Farage then told The Sun: “I’m completely convinced that Brexit was the right thing to do because that’s how people critical of the EU are treated.

“It shows why it was the wrong organization to be part of.”

Delivering a message to the local mayor who ordered the ban, he said: “What an absolutely monstrous and undemocratic man you are.”

Cops showed up at the NatCon event around noon.

The mayor of Saint-Josse, Emir Kir, wrote on social media on Tuesday morning: “I have issued an order from the mayor to ban the ‘National Conference of Conservatism’ event to ensure public safety.

“In Etterbeek, the city of Brussels and Saint-Josse, the far right is not welcome.”

Former Interior Secretary Suella Braverman was also present

Donald Trump will not abandon NATO or Ukraine, according to Nigel Farage

She began her speech by saying: “The radical left’s attempts to prevent this conference from taking place make our meeting even more important and more satisfying.”

The former Minister added: “If only the globalists in Brussels invested as much energy in securing our borders, as they did in trying to muzzle the Conservatives, perhaps our continent would be in a healthier state.”

Tony Guilland – one of the organizers of MCC Brussels – told reporters: “The document says it is a matter of public order, partly related to the counter-protest, which is difficult to understand.

“It actually feels like cancel culture. It feels like the (local) mayor has taken a political stance.”

“NatCon” organizers had been scrambling for a location to host the event since Friday night.

The reception room they initially booked was closed – reportedly under political pressure from the socialist mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close.

The event was moved to a hotel in the city’s European neighborhood, but he also changed his mind on Monday night, fearing the meeting would be interrupted.

Organizers highlighted the fact that only three police officers showed up, insisting that the conference would continue until “there is a decision to apply greater force to close us down”.

He added: “Police say the event is creating a public nuisance and will therefore be phased out.

“You can all stay here as long as you want for now. But if you leave the building, they won’t let you back in.”

COMMENT: Nigel Farage is returning

By HARRY COLE

I SAW the future of the right in Britain and not a single sitting Conservative minister was there.

Love him or hate him, Nigel Farage is a giant of British politics.

Its impact is likely to be felt long after the likes of David Cameron, George Osborne and Theresa May are mere answers in a pub quiz.

To use his usual arrogance, without ever occupying a seat in the mother of parliaments, Captain Nige basically steered the great ship Britain onto a course of freedom like no other.

So as the Brexiteer turned 60 on Wednesday, it’s worth paying attention to the guest list for his big party.

I looked out over a sea of oysters, tacos and, frankly, more than its fair share of billionaires — and felt a sea change.

The combined net worth of the craziest dresses and hairstyles in the room was, by my pack of cigarettes calculations, around £4 BILLION.

There were setbacks from Ukip, there were old people from the city. . . and half of the TV programming for those not on the BBC or Sky.

But there was also a lot of money from both sides of the Atlantic and from some of Donald Trump’s most trusted advisers.

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss and her ever-loyal husband Hugh were politely propositioned by well-oiled Sunday journalists.

A handful of more radical Conservative MPs, including David Davis, Andrea Jenkyns and Mark François, appeared.

But no ministers were found to be in professional conflict.

The conservative party was a mere footnote to that night.

However, the next generation of Reform UK was on parade – despite the fact that its leader’s partner was mysteriously absent.

Jim Davidson finally gets another big break as the scratched-out host, cracking a joke about Joe Biden that, if I recreated it here, would be canceled faster than Truss fell.

The old-school comedy legend has finally found a safe space in this fabric-shrouded woke world.

Wasn’t this a tough crowd when he attacked the Scottish First Minister, who he only referred to as Cat Stevens – geddit? – for wanting to trap everyone in the room.

Once upon a time it would air on television these days, but you know what? Nobody cared.

Although the current US president has been the butt of jokes, his likely successor has actually appeared. Albeit in the form of a video message.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what your next move will be, Nigel,” shouted the former/next president to the packed Boisdale steakhouse booked for the night.

“It will be interesting. But you’re not done yet and I hope the best is yet to come.”

A message to send shivers down the spine of Downing Street.

Nigel’s friends suggest he might sit out the next election and wait for the Conservatives to implode before trying to rally the right from smoldering ruin.

But I suspect he can’t help himself: he’s eager to get back.

And he’ll have the firepower to do it if he wants to — if Wednesday night’s drinking is anything to go by, anyway.

“This seems like the perfect occasion to make an announcement,” said the birthday boy when he finally took the stage.

“But I haven’t really made up my mind.”

I smell nonsense.

Nigel is coming back, whether the Conservative party has woken up to the fact or not.

And this time it could be a decisive blow.
