PRIME Minister Sir Keir Starmer has given a behind-the-scenes peek at Labour’s new Cabinet in a brilliant clip calling for a “major reset”.

The left-wing leader, 61, posted the clip on X, formerly Twitter, this morning and it has been viewed more than 1.2 million times.

Posting the 93-second footage on social media, he added: “My government will restore politics as a force for good.

“Let’s start.”

The footage begins with a calendar being changed to July 5, before switching to a view of Sir Keir addressing a crowd outside Number 10.

He said: “I invite all of you to join this Government of service in the mission of national renewal.

“Our work is urgent and we begin today.”

The footage then shows Sir Keir naming his key Labor figures in his new cabinet, including Angela Rayner and David Lammy.

Sir Keir said: “Our country needs a bigger reset, no matter how violent the storms of history.

“One of the great strengths of this nation has always been our ability to sail into calmer waters.”

The Prime Minister is then seen receiving phone calls from world leaders such as Australian leader Anthony Albanese and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with him telling the latter that Britain’s support for the country would not change under his leadership.

The video then switches to Sir Keir leading his first cabinet meeting.

He said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to welcome you to Cabinet for our first meeting.

“It was an honor and a privilege of my life to be invited yesterday by His Majesty the King to form a government.

“[There is] a huge amount of work to do.”

Finishing the filming, Sir Keir said: “I want a politics and a country that works for you.”

The video was released after Sir Keir said he was seeking an “immediate reset” of the relationship between the Westminster government and the devolved nations as he embarked on a tour of the four corners of Britain.

Sir Keir insisted that “respect” would be the key ingredient in the bond between the new UK administration and its Irish, Scottish and Welsh counterparts.

His first stop is Edinburgh today, where the Prime Minister said he wanted to “turn disagreement into co-operation” with the SNP north of the border.

“People across the UK are bound by shared beliefs. Core values ​​of respect, service and community that define us as a great nation,” said Sir Keir.

“This starts today with an immediate reset of my Government’s approach to working with the First and Deputy First Ministers, because meaningful cooperation centered on respect will be key to driving change across our United Kingdom.

“Together we can begin the work to rebuild our country with a resolute focus on serving working people once again.”

Using his first 24 hours in office to set the tone for his new government, Sir Keir promised to turn his back on “tribalism” in politics and usher in an era of “stability” and “moderation”.

Part of this will be an effort to “drive power and resources out of Whitehall” and open the door to those who “have skin in the game” and who know what is best for their communities, the new prime minister suggested.

Sir Keir’s four-nation tour comes ahead of a busy first week in office, with little time to settle into No 10 as he prepares for the NATO summit in Washington on Tuesday.

Before traveling north of the border, where he is due to meet Prime Minister John Swinney for talks, he said: “Our UK government will put Scotland back at the heart of everything we do.

“To the people of Scotland, my message is simple and clear: you are at the heart of how we unlock prosperity across the country.

“We will rebuild a strong Scotland at the forefront of our decade of national renewal.

“My offer to the Scottish Government is the same. We can turn disagreement into cooperation and, through meaningful cooperation and a genuine seat at the table, deliver change for a generation.”

Earlier on Saturday, Sir Keir announced during a Downing Street press conference that he would also arrange a meeting with metro mayors on Tuesday before heading to the US.

He said his “door is open” to regional leaders of all political stripes as he outlined plans to “discuss with them their part in delivering the growth we need across the UK”.

Facing his first media grilling after becoming prime minister, Sir Keir also said:

  • When pressed on tax increases, he will have to make “tough decisions” and approach challenges with “raw honesty.”
  • The previous government’s controversial plan to send migrants to Rwanda was “dead and buried before it began”.
  • He would chair interdepartmental “mission delivery committees” to “put into action the plans we set out in our manifesto.”
  • It was “impossible” to say that the Government would prevent the early release of prisoners, saying that overcrowding was a “monumental failure of the last government” and “we cannot solve this overnight”.
  • The Government has already started work to fix the “broken” NHS, and the effort to get 40,000 extra appointments per week, as promised, “starts immediately”.

After achieving a historic victory at the polls, Sir Keir said his party had been given “a mandate to do politics differently”.

“This will be a policy and a government that cares about delivery, about service. Self-interest is yesterday’s politics,” he said.

Sir Keir will make his debut on the international stage as British prime minister when he flies to Washington for next week’s NATO meeting, which is expected to include discussions on support for Ukraine.

The Prime Minister, who continues to receive calls from world leaders, will also host the European Political Community summit in the United Kingdom on July 18.
