WASHINGTON — The Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee on Sunday requested that President Joe Biden’s doctor appear for a transcribed interview about Biden’s medical evaluation.

President James Comer, R-Ky., said in a letter to Dr. Kevin O’Connor that he also sought to link O’Connor to a series of investigations he made into the business dealings of Biden’s relatives. Come, one prominent critic of Biden, for months helped lead efforts for the Republican-led impeachment inquiry against Biden, which went nowhere. Republicans provided no evidence that Biden was involved in any criminal actionsdespite repeated claims to the contrary.

In the letter, Comer pointed to Biden’s response to ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos’ question on Friday about whether Biden would be willing to take a cognitive test.

“I take a cognitive test every day” OfferIt isand rehe responded. “Every day I take this test. Everything I do.”

Comer said in the letter: “You have repeatedly declined most interview requests from the media, and the Committee now turns to you to provide answers about your independence because of the mixed and confusing messages coming from the White House about the President’s ability to perform his paper. work.”

The letter also noted conflicting initial reports about whether Biden had undergone a medical examination since his routine physical in February.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre initially told reporters on Wednesday that Biden had not had any medical exams since February. Hours later, Biden told a group of governors during a meeting that he was examined by a doctor after the debate, adding that everything was fine, accountOgoing to sources.

“Statements from the White House press secretary and President Biden appear inconsistent, and the Committee seeks to understand the extent of their role in the White House at this time,” Comer said. “Given your connections to the Biden family, the Committee also seeks to understand whether you are in a position to provide accurate and independent assessments of the President’s fitness to serve.”

Comer also asked O’Connor in the letter to provide documents and communications related to James Biden, the president’s brother, and a company Comer has long sought to link himself to the Biden family’s financial conduct.

He requested that O’Connor contact team members by July 14 to schedule an interview.

A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday evening.

O’Connor was hired to be Biden’s doctor just days into his term. He first began serving as Biden’s doctor in 2009.

Following Biden’s routine physical exam in February, O’Connor said in an assessment that he “fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations.”
