WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden has faced calls from Democrats in Congress to drop out of the 2024 presidential race following his dismal debate performance last month.
Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, on July 2 became the first to call for the president’s recall, but more have followed since then, including ranking members of House committees. Still, other lawmakers defended the president, including members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
In a July 8 letter to Democrats on Capitol Hill, Biden insisted he would remain in the race, saying “the voters have spoken.”
