Donald Trump is “fine” after a filming at a rally on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, a Trump spokesperson told Business Insider in an email.

The former president was removed from the stage by his security guards after shots were heard.

“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” the spokesperson said. “He is doing well and is being examined at a local medical center. More details will be released.”

Details of Saturday’s incident remain unclear, but rally video it shows Trump bending down and extending his hand close to his face. Photos show blood around the former president’s ear.

A Secret Service spokesperson said on X that there was an “incident” at the rally and that the former president is fine.

“The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former president is safe,” the statement said. “This is now an active Secret Service investigation and more information will be released when available.”

The Associated Press reported that the Butler County district attorney said a rally attendee as well as an alleged “shooter” were killed.

The Butler Township Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s requests for comment.

President Joe Biden issued a statement after the shooting, saying he had been briefed on the matter.

“I was brief about the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania,” Biden’s statement said. “I’m grateful to know he’s safe and well. I’m praying for him and his family and all those who were at the rally as we await more information.”

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There is no place for this type of violence in America,” the statement continues. “We must come together as a nation to condemn him.”

This is a developing story…
