MILWAUKEE – Former President donald trump is expected to reveal his choice for running mate on Monday, as the Republican National Convention open here.

Bret Baier Fox News reported Monday morning that Trump confirmed those plans to him in a phone interview.

“Yes, we will hire the vice president today,” Baier said. “And he said there are other things coming. I don’t know what that means.”

A Trump campaign official postponed the interview when asked for comment.

Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, is focused on three finalists: Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and the Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota. But the search process has been closely watched by the former president and top advisers, with everything, from the timing to the identity of his choice, largely up to Trump himself.

O assassination attempt on Trump at his Saturday rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, could have changed the time or sent the search in other directions. But Monday’s announcement coincides with his preferred timeline for presenting his choice at the convention.

In the days leading up to the Pennsylvania rally, Trump made a series of final checks with the finalists, three sources familiar with the discussions told NBC News.

Vance and Rubio met in person with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort, a source familiar with those meetings said. Burgum spoke with Trump by phone, two sources familiar with the conversation said. ABC News was first to report at meetings.
