SIR KEIR Starmer plans to rebuild Britain, putting wealth creation and growth at the heart of Labour’s first King’s Speech in 15 years.

The new Prime Minister promises to be focused on creating well-paid jobs to raise the standard of living for Britons.

Thirty bills will be presented with the theme “pro-business and pro-worker” at their core.

The government promises to boost growth by building 1.5 million homes and scrapping planning rules to get more Brits onto the housing ladder.

A consultation will be published which will help identify land where councils can build to meet their housing targets.

Changes will also be introduced to the planning system so that large infrastructure projects of national importance can be built, particularly in the energy sector.

The Labor government also intends to bring back legislation to abolish section 21 “no-fault” evictions and give tenants more rights over exorbitant rent increases.

New powers will also be revealed to crush people-smuggling gangs and reduce the number of migrants crossing the Channel, including the fight against terrorism.

The King’s speech sets out the government’s legislative and policy proposals for the next parliamentary session.

Smoke

Rishi Sunak’s plan to ban young people from smoking legally is expected to return in tomorrow’s King’s Speech.

The Tobacco and Vapes Act, which was repealed when Parliament closed for the general election, is likely to be reintroduced.

Labor has promised to implement this ban if it takes power, and since the bill is largely ready, government sources say it makes sense to include it now, albeit with some “tweaks”.

New Veterans Minister promises to make a difference

The proposed law would prevent anyone born after 2009 from smoking legally, gradually raising the minimum age to buy cigarettes from the current 18 years.

Devolution

As part of the Government’s plans for a decentralization review, the King’s Speech is expected to include legislation that will give new powers to local regions.

The Government wants to transfer more responsibilities from Westminster to those “in the game” and let them preside over local issues, including support for jobs, housing and transport.

Only around half the population in England enjoys devolved powers, but ministers will push for more local authorities to take on additional responsibilities.

Housing

Sir Keir will promise major change to the property sector, including new help for struggling first-time buyers and renters.

The King will say that the government will deliver the biggest increase in the construction of social and affordable homes in a generation.

Sir Keir has pledged to build 1.5 million homes in five years with the aim of getting more people into the housing ladder.

Ministers also promised that new buyers will receive first dibs on properties in new developments before they are sold to foreign investors.

What is a King’s Speech?

By Jonathan Rosa

The King’s Speech is a royal tradition that dates back to the 16th century.

Her Majesty’s speech to the House of Lords sets the agenda for the next session of Parliament.

What is a King’s Speech?

The King’s Speech is part of the State Opening of Parliament, which marks a new session of the House of Commons and Lords.

The entire event is marked by the usual British sense of pomp and ceremony.

The speech traditionally sets out the Government’s objectives in the new session and outlines the main policies it will pursue.

Events begin with a carriage procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster.

The carriage is escorted by the Household Cavalry.

The King arrives at the Sovereign’s entrance and heads to the Robe Room.

Wearing the Imperial State Crown and State Robe, he leads the Royal Procession through the Royal Gallery to the House of Lords chamber.

The King’s Speech is delivered by the King from the throne in the House of Lords.

Although the King reads the Speech, it is written by the Government.

The tradition of the State Opening of Parliament and the delivery of the speech dates back to the 16th century.

The official “Black Rod” of the House of Lords is sent to summon the members of the House of Commons.

The doors of the House of Commons are symbolically closed in your face – symbolizing the independence of the monarchy.

Black Rod then knocks on the door three times before it opens.

The MPs then follow Black Rod to the Lords, where they hang out in the “Bar” to listen to the speech.

When the King has given his speech and left the Chamber, a new parliamentary session begins.

Both policies are expected to ease some pressure on the overburdened housing market and encourage more first-time buyers to move up the ladder.

Another promise during the speech will be the creation of a permanent mortgage guarantee scheme, which will see the Government act as a guarantor for people who are unable to save for large property deposits.

For renters, the King is expected to promise a ban on hated Section 21 “no-fault” evictions.

It should also end fixed-term tenancy agreements, giving tenants the freedom to leave a property when it suits them, not the owner.

Transport

The speech aims to introduce legislation to fulfill Labor’s promise to renationalise the majority of rail passenger services within five years.

The plan includes the creation of Great British Railways, a new public body that will take over existing contracts as they expire and take responsibility for managing the services.

Labor also promised automatic refunds for train delays and improved internet connectivity on trains during the election campaign.

Immigration

Efforts to crack down on illegal immigration will be at the center of the King’s Speech.

Mainly, this will involve putting Labour’s proposed Border Security Command on a “statutory basis” and giving its officers counter-terrorism powers to target smuggling gangs.

This will allow them to go beyond normal policing in order to disrupt human trafficking operations.

Previously promised measures to curb legal migration – such as prohibiting companies that violate labor legislation from hiring foreigners – should be shelved.

This is because one of the Conservative government’s last acts was a package of controls that put migration on track to return to around 300,000.

Crime

A criminal blitz was promised by Labor in the elections and will feature heavily in its first term.

The King’s Speech will include legislation to make spiking a specific offense so that police can better respond to vile behavior.

It will also ban deadly blades, such as ninja swords, which can be easily purchased online – and which have been used in several recent murders.

It will also feature a Martyn’s Law that requires places such as bars to have preparations in place in the event of a terrorist attack.

Soccer

Labor will take control of football’s biggest shake-up in decades after the Conservatives failed to do so before the election.

Sir Keir is expected to make few changes to what has already been planned – namely an independent regulator to oversee the game.

The watchdog will impose a levy on Premier League clubs to pay smaller clubs in the lower leagues, as well as imposing checks on potentially dodgy owners.

It will also ban clubs from joining dissidents such as the doomed European Super League, and stop owners from destroying the team’s heritage by changing the kit and logos.

Economy

Labor has promised a huge change to benefits to get millions of Brits back to work, including reforming Universal Credit.

Sir Keir has released his party’s manifesto for the general election, with benefits reform a key part of his promises to voters.

As part of the launch of this manifesto, the head of the party committed to reviewing Universal Credit “so that it makes work pay and combats poverty”.

However, the document does not give specific details about what exactly will change.

Starmer also promised to “end mass dependence” on emergency food parcels, which he says is a “moral scar on our society”.

The manifesto states that the Labor Party will develop an “ambitious strategy” to reduce child poverty.

Under the new plans, the Labor Party would work with local authorities to get more disabled and sick people back into employment.
