JOE Biden’s team admitted that support for the president’s re-election in 2024 is waning, but insisted there is still a path for him to defeat Donald Trump in November.

Biden’s campaign manager said the 81-year-old will not step aside, even after big-name Democrats like Barack Obama have urged him to consider dropping out.

Biden’s circle has gotten smaller as key party faces like President Obama and Nancy Pelosi have changed their previous opinions about the leader currently battling COVID.

The president’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, admitted that Biden faced a drop in support.

“I’m not here to say it hasn’t been a difficult few weeks for the campaign, no doubt it has been, and we’ve definitely seen some drop in support, but it’s been a small movement,” she said.

“This entire campaign was built around how close this race will be.”

Despite this, she painted an optimistic picture that her team had “multiple paths” to defeating Trump.

“We have a lot of work to do to reassure the American people that yes, he is old, but he can win,” Dillon told MSNBC’s Joe’s morning show.

“Joe Biden is more committed than ever to defeating Donald Trump,” he added.

She also acknowledged that voters were concerned about her health and age.

“They have doubts, but they will stick with Joe Biden,” she added.

Dillon expressed a strong position within the president’s team that they believed in him and his chances.

‘The writing is on the wall’ for Joe Biden and his ‘selfish’ refusal to leave the race after Obama’s upset, says former Barack aide

“We believe in this campaign,” she said.

“We see the way forward,” she added.

This update comes after reports that Biden’s family has considered a possible exit plan for him, according to NBC News.

The news also represented a drastic change from recent reports that suggested party leaders hoped Biden might drop out of the race this weekend, according to Axes.

How could Biden be removed from the race?

Calls for Joe Biden to end his re-election campaign have increased since his poor performance on the night of the presidential debate on June 27.

After the debate, concerns about the 81-year-old president’s cognitive health were once again a pressing topic among the media and his allies in the Democratic Party.

What did Joe Biden say about his future in the race?

  • Biden has remained defiant and rejected calls for him to step aside in the upcoming presidential election.
  • The Biden administration was forced to deny reports that the president confided in a close ally that he was considering withdrawing from the race.
  • In a July 5 interview with ABC News, Biden said that “no one is more qualified” to win the race than him, adding that only the “Lord Almighty” could convince him to resign.
  • On July 8, Biden sent a scathing letter to DNC members of Congress who called on him to resign.
  • “I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to defeating Donald Trump,” the president wrote.
  • Biden began attacking “elites” in a live interview with MSNBCdaring any challenger to run against him.

How could Joe Biden be removed from the vote?

  • Since the June 27th debate night, a growing number of congressional Democrats have called on Biden to end his re-election campaign.
  • So far, five of the DNC’s 213 members of Congress have publicly called for Biden to drop out of the race.
  • As Biden continues to emphasize his status in the upcoming election, many question whether the 25th Amendment should be used to remove him.

What is the 25th Amendment?

  • The 25th Amendment to the Constitution states that the vice president will replace the president if he dies in office or resigns or if members of the president’s cabinet declare that the president is unable to discharge the duties of his office.
  • Labor Secretary Julie Su, who would need to invoke the 25th Amendment, called the idea “absurd.”

Biden, who is isolated at his Delaware home as he battles the virus, has top supporters doubting his ability to win in November.

PRESIDENTIAL QUESTIONS

Obama reportedly expressed concerns to his team and called on Biden to reconsider his role in this fight.

He told allies that “his former vice president’s path to victory has greatly diminished and he thinks the president needs to seriously consider the viability of his candidacy,” according to the Washington Post.

The former president was a great friend and supporter of the current leader, as Biden served as his vice president from 2008 to 2016.

Nancy Pelosi, formerly a strong Biden supporter, also reportedly expressed her concerns to the president privately.

She offered a lackluster message of support for the president in a recent interview.

“I want him to do whatever he decides to do, and that’s the way it is,” she said, according to MSNBC.

Four more Democratic congresswomen have publicly called for Biden to resign.

House Representatives Jared Huffman, Marc Veasey, Chuy Garcia and Mark Pocan released a joint message to the president today.

They praised Biden for his leadership and work but called on him to drop out of the race.

“Now it is time for you to pass the torch to a new generation of Democratic leaders,” they wrote.

“Right now, however, we have to face the reality that widespread public concern about their age and physical condition is compromising what should be a winning campaign,” they added.

“These perceptions may not be fair, but they have hardened following last month’s debate and are now unlikely to change.

“We believe the most responsible and patriotic thing you can do at this time is to stop being our candidate and continue to lead our party in the White House.”

OLD TALK

Biden has previously acknowledged calls for him to step aside, The US Sun reported.

In an interview with BET this week, he said he would reevaluate his decision to run for re-election if he had a medical issue.

When asked if he would reevaluate his decision to run for re-election, Biden responded: “If I had any health issues that came up.”

Biden then clarified: “If doctors came to me and said, ‘You have this problem, that problem.’”
