PRESIDENT Joe Biden’s abrupt withdrawal from his re-election bid on Sunday night was not due to his Covid diagnosis, authorities have confirmed.
On Sunday afternoon, the president addressed the nation to announce he would step back in the 2024 race after facing mounting pressure from his own party.
The announcement came just days after the 81-year-old tested positive for Covid-19, leading many to speculate about the reasons for his change of heart.
Just hours before dropping out of the race, Biden posted on X about his continued desire to run for another term.
However, authorities confirmed that the positive Covid-19 test was not behind the president’s decision, for CNN.
A senior White House official reportedly added that while Biden continues to isolate and recover at his home in Delaware, no other health issues are linked to the withdrawal decision.
The president released a statement on X shortly before 2pm on Sunday, confirming the end of his campaign to promote the Democratic Party.
