KAMALA Harris remained silent about her presidential bid as she addressed the public for the first time since Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign and endorsed her.

“Our President Joe Biden wanted to be here today,” she said at an event celebrating the National University Athletic Association (NCAA) champion teams of the 2023-2024 season, based at the White House.

“He is feeling much better and recovering quickly and is looking forward to getting back on the road and would like to say a few words about our president.

“Joe Biden’s legacy of accomplishments over the past three years is unparalleled in modern history.

“In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most two-term presidents, and I first met President Biden through his son Beau.

“We worked together as attorneys general in our states, and back then Beau used to tell me stories about his father.

He is feeling much better and recovering quickly.”

“He talked about the kind of father and man Joe Biden is.

“The qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities I see every day in our president.

“His honesty, his integrity, his commitment to his faith and his family, his big heart and his deep love for our country.”

“And I am a firsthand witness that every day our president…fights for the American people and we are deeply grateful for his service to our nation,” Harris added, to applause.

THE BEST

She then welcomed everyone to the White House to honor the achievements of “these great athletes, each of them national champions… the best of the best.”

Harris also praised the winners ahead of the Paris Olympics, where some are likely to compete.

She told the athletes that they knew how to “count on their teammates.”

“You remind us what can be achieved with hard work and ambition,” added Harris, as he paid tribute to those who supported the champions, including families and coaches.

ENDORSED

Since Biden’s surprise announcement, a growing number of Democrats who were believed to challenge Harris for the nomination have now supported her presidential bid.

Governors Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer, whose names would be on the list of potential presidential candidates, endorsed Harris’ campaign.

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who was reportedly considering a possible meeting with Democrats for the open nomination, also opted out.

‘SHE IS NOT BETTER THAN HIM’

Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidate donald trump ripped Biden and said that although he won’t face the president at the polls, he doesn’t think Harris is much of a challenge.

“I don’t think she’s better than him,” Trump said CBS News.

“She could be a lot less competent, which is hard to believe. Policies, whether his or hers, would be no different.

“She was in charge of the border. She was the border czar. She was the worst of all. The worst of all. We had the worst border of all, so it wouldn’t matter.”

In a pre-recorded interview with Fox News’ Jesse Waters, Trump claimed that Harris was campaigning for Biden to resign.

“She’s trying to get him to resign so she can run for president. She is being ridiculed around the world,” Trump said, adding that he thought Harris was “incompetent.”

There is no evidence to suggest that Harris wanted Biden to end his re-election campaign.

What happens next when Joe Biden drops out of the 2024 race?

President Biden has finally heeded calls to abandon his re-election bid, throwing the 2024 election into chaos. He has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, but nominating a new Democratic candidate will not be a simple process. Here’s what’s next after Biden’s stunning announcement.

Biden secured nearly 4,000 delegates by winning the state caucuses and primaries earlier this year. He was supposed to be officially named the Democratic nominee in a virtual vote before the Democratic National Convention, which begins on August 19.

Democratic Party rules do not allow Biden to simply pass his 3,896 delegates to Harris or another candidate.

Harris will now have to convince the nearly 4,000 delegates and 700 superdelegates to support her and nominate her candidate.

However, delegates are free agents who can choose to support any candidate they want – likely without voter input at this stage, since the primaries and caucuses have already been held.

All eyes are now on the previously planned virtual vote – where the Democratic Party could choose a candidate before the DNC begins.

Biden’s support for Harris will likely sway delegates, and no one has publicly challenged her as a candidate — but delegates are not required to support her. Even if virtual voting is not held, the party could still choose Harris or another candidate before the convention.

If Democrats do not nominate their candidate before the DNC, it will be the first open and contested convention since 1968.

KAMALA STAYS SILENT IN PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

Harris, 59, greeted the 2023-24 NCAA championship teams at the White House on Monday, as Democrats slowly begin to unite behind his presidential campaign.

The vice president began her speech by reflecting on Biden’s accomplishments as president before turning to the student-athletes in attendance.

“Our president, Joe Biden, wanted to be here today. He is feeling much better and recovering quickly and looks forward to getting back on the road,” Harris said of the president, who is recovering from a Covid-19 diagnosis.

“And I want to say a few words about our president. Joe Biden’s legacy of accomplishments over the past three years is unmatched in modern history.

“In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who served two terms.

“And I first met President Biden through his son Beau. We worked together as attorneys general in our states, and back then Beau used to tell me stories about his father.

“He talked about the kind of father and man Joe Biden is.”
