AMERICA could soon have a historic first gentleman in the White House this November.
But before marrying Douglas Emhoff, Vice President Kamala Harris had a series of high-profile relationships.
Emhoff and Harris met in 2013, just a year before they got married.
He is an entertainment lawyer based in California and also licensed to practice in Washington DC.
“Along with an active public life, [Emhoff] is passionately involved in numerous community, civic and charitable activities that include legal aid, human rights, social justice and children’s welfare,” said his biography at the company DL Piper, where he is a partner.
But Harris, reportedly the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee after Joe Biden announced he would no longer run, primarily dated San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and talk show host Montel Williams before her current marriage.
It happens like:
MAYOR WILLIE BROWN
Brown, who was separated from his wife at the time of his relationship with Harris in the mid-1990s, confirmed the couple’s courtship in an article for the San Francisco Chronicle.
The 2019 article titled Sure, I Dated Kamala Harris. So What?, detailed her support for Harris’ first run to be San Francisco District Attorney and her influence on her career.
“Yes, we dated,” the former mayor, 90, wrote in his article.
Harris met Brown in 1994 when he was speaker of the state Assembly, according to Heavy.
At the time, the future vice president was just 29 years old, while Brown was 60.
Some also accused Harris of benefiting “professionally from the personal relationship.” according to LA Mag.
Brown allegedly gave Harris a BMW and appointed her to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and later the Medical Assistance Commission, according to USA Today.
These positions earned Harris more than $400,000 over five years, according to the outlet.
But things didn’t end well between the two.
In 1995, Brown described their relationship as a “long affair” despite no longer being with his wife.
Full statement from Vice President Kamala Harris as Biden drops out of 2024 race and endorses her
“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishments is unparalleled in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many two-term presidents.
“It is a great honor to serve as your vice president and I am deeply grateful to President Dr. Biden and the entire Biden family. I first met President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from the time we worked together as attorneys general in our home states. As we worked together, Beau told me stories about his father. The kind of father – and the kind of man – he was. And the qualities that Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values that I have seen every day in Joe’s leadership as president: his honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love for our country and the American people.
“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above all else.
“I am honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to deserve and win this nomination. Over the past year, I’ve traveled across the country, talking to Americans about the clear choice in this important election. And that is what I will continue to do in the coming days and weeks. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party – and unite our nation – to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.
“We have 107 days until election day. Together, we will fight. And together we will win.”
In 2003, Harris said San Francisco Weekly that her and Brown’s relationship was an “albatross” around her neck.
In his 2019 article, Brown said he helped Harris and many other politicians with their careers.
“The difference is that Harris was the only one who, after I helped her, texted me that I would be indicted if I ‘made any reckless mischief’ while she was the prosecutor,” he wrote.
“That’s politics for you,” said the former mayor.
MONTEL WILLIAMS
Harris also dated talk show host Montel Williams.
“Kamala Harris and I dated briefly about 20 years ago when we were both single. So what?” Williams said in a post addressing her past relationship on X in 2019, Twitter at the time.
“I have great respect for Senator Harris,” he continued.
Williams said TMZ that he would be willing to vote for his ex in November.
He clarified that he would be willing to vote for anyone on the ballot opposite Trump, including Harris.
Before securing enough delegates on Monday to be formally named the Democratic nominee, Williams posted on X that she would love to see Maryland Gov. Wes Moore on the ticket.
But he later retweeted a tweet shared by Moore endorsing Harris.
Aside from Brown, Williams and Emhoff, Harris’ other relationships are not widely known.
