Secretary of Transport Pete Buttigieg thinks the former president donald trump probably not looking forward to a future presidential debate against the vice president Kamala Harris.

During an appearance on CNN“The Source” on Tuesday, Buttigieg told the anchor Kaitlan Collins that he believes Trump is “afraid” of debating Harris because “she will be too effective and will reveal his inability to talk about anything other than himself and his past.”

When Collins noted that Trump had said on Tuesday that he would “absolutely” debate HarrisButtigieg pointed to the timing of Trump’s initial complaints about the debate.

The Trump campaign had already agreed to two presidential debates before the November elections. The first debate was held on June 27th, and the second is scheduled for September 10th, hosted by ABC News.

But hours after Biden dropped his re-election bid and endorsed Harris as the new Democratic nominee shortly after on Sunday, Trump led to Social Truth complain that his campaign had to “start all over again” with the time and money he spent fighting Biden. He also called for the debate to be held on Fox News.

“Now that Joe has, not surprisingly, dropped out of the race, I think the debate, with whoever the Radical Left Democrats choose, should be held on FoxNews rather than the very biased ABC,” Trump wrote.

“What has changed?” Buttigieg asked Collins. “From when he said he was ready to do a debate on ABC and now he says he’s not. ABC hasn’t changed, Donald Trump hasn’t changed, but there’s a new candidate and clearly he’s hesitant to debate her in exactly the same terms.”

Buttigieg said he is excited for Americans to see the contrast between Harris and Trump.

“She will be very effective in reminding Americans that, on issue after issue, they already agree with us. They already agree with her and the Democrats,” he said before referencing issues such as reproductive rights and Democratic policies on taxes and gun violence.
