WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – Former President donald trump attacked Vice President Kamala Harris on immigration and criminal justice on Friday in her second speech since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, calling Harris a “bum” and a “failed vice president.”
“She was a slut three weeks ago. She was a slut. A failed vice president in a failed administration, with millions of people crossing, and she was the border czar,” Trump said at the Turning Point Action Believers Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Many of the former president’s criticisms of Harris were similar to his attacks on Biden. Trump said Harris mismanaged the southern border, dislikes Jewish people and will appoint “Marxists” to the Supreme Court to deprive Americans of their religious freedom. (The vice president’s husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, is the first Jewish spouse of a vice president and has held a position prominent role in combating anti-Semitism.)
These attacks were in line with Republicans’ general unsubstantiated claims that Democrats would impose socialist or Marxist policies if elected.
The Republican Party attacked Harris’ record as the Biden administration’s “border czar,” but the White House backed downsaying Harris’ role was to work with Central American nations to address the root causes of migration, not to resolve the crisis at the southern border.
Trump also tried to link Harris to San Francisco, a city where she was a former district attorney, telling attendees that if Harris is elected, “terrorists will appoint hundreds of far-left judges to forcibly impose San Francisco’s crazy liberal values.” to Americans across the country. ”
The former president also called on religious voters to come out to the polls in greater numbers this year than ever before, telling them: “You have tremendous power, but you don’t know it. Calling them “my beautiful Christians,” Trump added: “Go out and vote. Just this time. You won’t need to do this anymore. Four more years. You know what? It will be fixed. Everything will be fine. You will no longer need to vote.”
Asked about Trump’s comments, Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesman, told NBC News: “President Trump was talking about the importance of faith, uniting this country and bringing prosperity to all Americans, as opposed to the environment divisive politician who has sown so much division and even resulted in an assassination attempt.”
In a statement after Trump’s speech, a spokesperson for Harris’ campaign said that during her speech, “Trump was speechless” and “insulted the faith of American Jews and Catholics.” The spokesperson added that Trump “looked like someone you wouldn’t want to sit with in a restaurant — let alone be the president of the United States.”
Friday’s event was the first time Trump’s ear bandage appeared to have been completely removed since he was the victim of an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania nearly two weeks ago.
The former president also pointed out the lack of a bandage, telling the crowd: “I think you can see that I recovered well and I actually just took the last bandage off my ear.”
Trump added that he “took a bullet for democracy.”
