PRESIDENT Joe Biden has called for a series of changes to the US Supreme Court as he enters the final months of his presidency.

Suggested reforms include removing presidential immunity for crimes, cracking down on ethics rules for judges and introducing term limits.

This comes after the president wrote an op-ed published in Washington Post on Monday morning.

Biden will ask Congress to make changes to the LBJ Presidential Library to honor the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, a White House official confirmed.

“I served as a U.S. senator for 36 years, including as chairman and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee. I oversaw the Supreme Court appointments as senator, vice president, and president than anyone alive today,” the president wrote.

“I have great respect for our institutions and the separation of powers.

“What is happening now is not normal and undermines public confidence in court decisions, including those that affect personal freedoms.

Biden’s comments came after the Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that former US presidents have a certain level of immunity from crimes committed while in office.

The 6-3 ruling was seen as a major victory for Trump, who faces a series of legal battles, including an election interference case relating to January 6.

“This nation was founded on a simple but profound principle: no one is above law“, wrote Biden.

“He is not the president of the U.S. He is not a United States Supreme Court Justice.”

Meanwhile, Trump turned to Truth Social to criticize the current administration and reinforce his own re-election campaign.

Joe Biden It is Kamala Harristhe worst administration in the world history of our country, will be an erased memory of the past”, he said he wrote in a long post.

The former president explained his hopes for the country next year in which he believes he will be in charge.

“America’s borders will be STRONG, SEALED and SECURE. Inflation you will be in COMPLETE RETREAT. Our economy will roar again. Optimism will increase,” he said.

“The American dream will prosper again for citizens of all race, religion, color and creed. Law and Justice will reign throughout our land.

“Freedom will be restored. The flame of freedom will burn brightly.”

While Biden’s Supreme Court reforms have focused on ensuring legal consequences for presidents, he also intends for changes to impact judges.

His second reform theme is to introduce term limits for Supreme Court justices, just as there are for presidents.

“This would reduce the chance that any presidency would radically alter the composition of the court for generations to come,” Biden wrote.

He suggested implementing a system in which the President would nominate a judge every two years for an 18-year term of active service on the Supreme Court.

The President’s final reform is the introduction of a “binding code of conduct” for the Supreme Court, as he has criticized the current code of ethics as “weak and self-enforcing”.
