DONALD Trump called the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony a ‘disgrace’ in a recent Fox News interview with Laura Ingraham.

The artists were accused of recreating Leonardo da Vinci’s famous depiction of the Last Supper, which illustrates Jesus’ last meal.

Ingraham asked Trump what he thought about the scene, and he quickly called the opening ceremony a “disgrace.”

“I thought the opening ceremony was a disgrace. I thought it was terrible,” he told Ingraham.

“We will not have the Last Supper as portrayed at the end of the night. I’m in favor of everyone, I’m very open-minded, but I thought what they did was a shame.”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk also called the ceremony “extremely disrespectful towards Christians”.

French Catholic clergy were also unhappy with the depiction, releasing a statement condemning the team’s actions.

“The ceremony unfortunately included scenes of mockery and mockery of Christianity, which we deeply deplore,” the Conference of Bishops said in a statement.

Come as…

The scene occurred during the opening ceremony performances.

The image that attracted criticism was that of a woman standing in front of a DJ at a long table.

She wore a bright blue dress and a silver headdress and was positioned with her hands on the table.

Drag queens posed alongside her and the image appeared to mimic the placement of Da Vinci’s famous painting.

Thomas Jolly, the opening ceremony’s artistic director, later clarified that the performance was not intended “to be subversive, to shock or to mock people”.

He added that The Last Supper was not the inspiration for the scene, but rather an interpretation of the Greek god Dionysus.

Anne Descamps, spokeswoman for the Olympics, apologized to those offended during an Olympic Committee press conference.

“It is clear that there was never any intention to show disrespect towards any religious group. On the contrary, I think (with) Thomas Jolly, we really tried to celebrate community tolerance,” said Descamps.

“Looking at the results of the surveys we shared, we believe that this ambition has been achieved. If people felt offended, of course we are very, very sorry.”

The International Olympic Committee repeated a similar statement, reiterating that the performance was not intended to show disrespect.

Some viewers shared that they were offended on social media, with one tweeting: “We used to watch the @Olympics full time in this house when the games were on. 0 minutes of the Paris games will be watched.

“Mocking the Last Supper with an 8-9 year old in the middle is a hard ‘no’ from me.”

However, some defended the performance, with one writing in X: “Can we put aside the ‘you mocked my god’ narrative now that it’s been proven that @Olympics art direction has nothing to do with the last supper and everything to do with ancient art, Greek and Olympic gods, and a tribute to the city where the games are held.”

Trump’s main political points

DONALD Trump closed the Republican National Convention on July 18 by telling his supporters he wanted to become president for “all Americans.”

  • Implement tax cuts, including no tax on tips
  • Protecting Social Security and Medicare – Trump said ‘incomes will soar and the middle class will prosper like never before’
  • Securing the borders – He promised to end the ‘border nightmare’. That means two things on day one: ‘Drill baby Drill’, as he said, and closing the borders
  • Finishing the construction of the wall
  • Keeping our ‘sons and daughters safe’
  • Replenish the military and build a military ‘dome’ – Trump insisted he could stop wars with just a phone call and said no military would be able to penetrate the US if he took office
  • End the war in Ukraine and impose tariffs on Iran
  • Promising to “beat” China
  • Work to lower prices and alleviate inflation
  • Reducing the cost of energy
  • Making cities “safe, clean and beautiful” again
  • Making it possible for Americans to buy gas-powered cars, ending the electric vehicle mandate on the first day of his presidency

TRUMP REFLECTS

Trump also revealed his thoughts on the election and reflected on his assassination attempt during his interview with Laura Ingraham.

The Fox News anchor asked Trump how his wife, former first lady, melania trump, reacted to the shooting.

“She was watching,” Trump said. “She was watching it live.”

He added that when he tried to discuss the scene with Melania, she was unable to talk about it.

“Which is good because it means she likes me,” Trump said with a laugh.

“She loves Me. She likes or loves me and that’s cool.

“But when I fell and she thought the worst had happened. They would have instant replay.”

Ingraham then questioned Trump about his decision to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, after the attempt on his life.

“I think it’s important, symbolically,” he replied.

Trump added that he will not stop holding outdoor rallies despite the Butler shooting.

Ingraham also asked Trump what he thinks about the election following President Joe Biden’s decision to resign.

He doubled down on his confidence and emphasized that he’s not worried now that Vice President Kamala Harris is becoming the Democratic nominee.

I’m in favor of everyone, I’m very open-minded, but I thought what they did was a disgrace.”

When asked if he would debate Harris, Trump responded, “The answer is yes, I will probably end up debating.”

Ingraham pressed Trump on what it would be like if he decided not to debate Harris.

“The answer is yes, but I can also argue not to do it,” he clarified.

“Also, I don’t like rewarding fake news… They’re going to make tens of millions of dollars from this debate. I don’t like ABC.”

Harris remained steadfast in her desire to debate Trump and accused him of backpedaling his way out of this situation.

Trump’s campaign team said it would not debate Harris until she was the party’s official nominee.

Harris is expected to officially secure the Democratic nomination during the Democratic National Convention, which begins on August 19.
