President Joe Biden said he spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris about his search for a 2024 vice presidential nominee.
But when it comes to evaluating the qualities she should look for in a candidate, “I’ll let her figure that out,” he said Friday.
Biden spoke on the South Lawn before leaving for Wilmington, Delaware, this weekend.
Harris is the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee after Biden dropped out of the race. She said she will announce her choice soon; she was supposed to go on the campaign trail with her running mate next week.
Kyle Rittenhouse, who was embraced by Trump after shooting three men during a 2020 protest against police brutality in Wisconsin, will not return the favor with his vote this fall.
The 21-year-old, who was acquitted of all charges in the Kenosha shooting, said he plans to write to a libertarian candidate — former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul.
“Unfortunately, Donald Trump had bad advisors who undermined him on the Second Amendment, and that’s my problem,” Rittenhouse said in a video posted on the social platform X. “If you can’t be completely uncompromising on the Second Amendment, I won’t vote. for you and I will write to someone else.
Some pro-Trump online influencers shared their disgust for Rittenhouse, saying he owed Trump more for defending him after the shooting.
Rittenhouse killed two men and injured a third at the protest. In court, he argued that he opened fire in self-defense after the men attacked him. The case became a flashpoint in the debate over guns, vigilantism and racial injustice in the US
Trump defended Rittenhouse at the time of the shooting and congratulated him after the verdict, saying, “If this isn’t self-defense, nothing is.”
Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles appeared to enter the US political fray in 2024, with a post that appears to applaud Donald Trump’s comment on “black jobs.”
“I love my black job,” Biles posted on social platform X on Friday, in response to a post from singer Ricky Davila, who said, “Iconic photo of the GOAT mastering his black job and collecting gold medals.”
The exchange occurred hours after Biles postponed Rebeca Andrade, from Brazil to win the overall Paris Olympic gymnastics finalstaking her home ninth gold medal.
Trump was criticized for initially arguing during his debate with President Joe Biden last month that migrants were taking “black jobs” and “Hispanic jobs” for Americans, angering critics who saw it as a racist and insulting attempt to expand his appeal beyond his white conservative base.
When pressed by moderators about what constituted a “black job,” Trump told attendees at this week’s National Association of Black Journalists conference that “a black job is anyone who has a job,” drawing groans from the room.
The Trump campaign did not immediately return a message seeking comment on Biles’ message, whose representatives also did not immediately return messages seeking further comment on her post or her thoughts generally on the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Abraham Hamadeh defeated Blake Masters in the Republican primary for a U.S. House seat, which featured a rare double endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Hamadeh has a good chance of winning the seat in November because the northwest Phoenix district is conservative.

Johnson defeated three primary opponents, including Marquita Bradshaw, a Memphis activist and community organizer who won the Democratic Senate nomination in 2020 and then lost to Republican Bill Hagerty by a wide margin. The Tennessee primary will also determine whether Republican Rep.
