SENATOR Tim Scott is getting married after years of speculation about his love life as an adult virgin, a title he has proudly claimed throughout his decades in politics.
The South Carolina Republican, 58, is settling down with Mindy Noce, 47, after the couple made their first appearance together at the third GOP debate in November 2023.
Scott popped the question to Noce, who he met at church, in January of this year, after about a year of dating.
“As a guy who’s mostly introverted and quiet, having to talk about the engagement is a little, you know, uncomfortable in a way, but it’s the most exciting thing I’ll ever do in my life, other than doing this. Jesus, my Lord,” said Scott The Washington Post about the engagement at the time.
“I’ve been very patient and prayerful, I’m very excited and somewhat nervous, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have found a soulmate and someone who shares many of the same interests, passions and goals as I do.”
The couple is scheduled to walk down the aisle at Seacoast Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on Saturday. Scott will become stepfather to Noce’s three children.
The longtime bachelor has often made headlines for his love life, or lack thereof, by publicly proclaiming his virginity.
While campaigning for a seat on the Charleston city council in 1995, he announced that he was a 30-year-old, God-fearing virgin.
He continued to speak of his abstinence when he was appointed the first black Republican senator in 2012, entering Congress in 2013.
“Ultimately, the Bible is very clear: abstinence until marriage,” Scott told Jornal Nacional in 2012 after winning a seat in the U.S. House.
“Not doing so is a sin.”
However, when National Journal asked Scott if he was abstinent in the same interview, he made a strange confession.
“Not as well as I used to,” Scott admitted.
He then added that he had not changed his mind on the matter.
“The Bible is right,” Scott told the outlet.
“You better wait. I just wish we all had more patience.”
Tim Scott’s statement about his engagement
Senator Tim Scott proposed to his girlfriend Mindy Noce in January 2024 on Kiawah Island in South Carolina.
“She said YES,” he wrote on Facebook.
“Mindy, thank you for making me the luckiest man in the world.
“’He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord’ – Proverbs 18:22.”
Last September, months after he first mentioned his “girlfriend” at an event hosted by Axios in May, Scott revealed why he’s been waiting for the right person to show up for him.
“One of the things I love about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that it always points us in the right direction,” he told Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, according to The New York Times.
“Proverbs 18:22 says, ‘He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.’ So can we just pray together for me?”
Despite Scott being single due to his Christianity, voters were still hesitant to put a single person in the White House when he announced his candidacy for president in May 2023.
Axes reported last fall that Republican donors were concerned about his personal life, as presidential candidates often work with their families to appeal to voters.
Scott dropped out of the race in November due to low poll numbers and endorsed former President Donald Trump in January.
