White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is expected to brief reporters on Friday afternoon.

The briefing comes after President Biden drew a clear line in a Thursday speech between his administration’s support for Israel in the war against Hamas, tempered by criticism of the high number of civilian casualties in the conflict, and the violence and acts illegals seen at some campus protests.

“In moments like this there are always those who rush to score political points. But this is not a time for politics. It is a moment of clarity. So let me be clear… Violent protest is not protected. Peaceful protest is,” Biden said in prepared remarks at the White House.

Biden made only passing comments about the protests before Thursday, condemning anti-Semitism but also reacting to those “who don’t understand what’s happening to the Palestinians.”

Friday’s briefing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm EDT.
