Vice President Harris dropped an F-bomb while giving advice to young Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders on Monday, drawing applause from her audience.
“We have to know that sometimes people will open the door for you and leave it open. Sometimes they don’t, and then you have to break down that damn door,” Harris said at the Asian Pacific American Institute of Congressional Studies’ annual Legislative Leadership Summit.
“Excuse my language,” Harris added to applause.
Actor and comedian Jimmy O. Yang, who moderated the conversation with the vice president, joked that “we have to make t-shirts with that saying.”
The expletive came after Yang asked Harris to reflect on her experience as the first Black and South Asian vice president of the US and how her heritage has informed her views and role as a leader.
“Here’s the thing about breaking barriers. Breaking barriers doesn’t mean you start on one side of the barrier and end up on the other side. There’s a breaking involved, and when you break things, you get cut. And you can bleed. And that goes for It’s always worth it,” Harris said.
The vice president’s appearance at the leadership summit comes as Biden administration celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. President Biden and Harris are also ready to comment at a White House reception honoring the month on Tuesday night.
