House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will speak to the media before participating in Tuesday’s hearing in former President Trump’s trial on charges of illegally using 2016 campaign funds.
The speaker easily held his ground last week in what was effectively a bipartisan vote of confidence, resolving an attempt to unseat him by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a close Trump ally.
Johnson’s visit to the New York City courthouse follows appearances by Senators Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) and J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) on Monday. After that day’s hearing, Tuberville expressed “disappointment in the courtroom” – apparently referring specifically to the decorum of the proceedings. Both senators expressed skepticism about the credibility of prominent prosecution witness Michael Cohen.
Johnson is expected to speak at 10:15 a.m. ET.
