Fox News anchor and legal analyst Shannon Bream rejected a claim made by Alina Habba, one of Donald Trump’s lawyers, that President Biden is responsible for the criminal charges the former president faces in New York.

“And Joe Biden, unfortunately, can’t do anything in office,” Habba said as he joined Bream, the “Fox News Sunday” host who broadcast much of the afternoon outside the Manhattan courthouse where he is Trump’s trial taking place. “So he has to use the same means as someone who is just trying to slip and fall quickly and make money. And that’s, frankly, what we’re seeing now.

“This is exactly a Biden show because he has to distract the American people,” Habba continued.

“But the Biden administration is not responsible for this trial,” Bream interrupted.

“How can you say the Biden administration is not responsible?” Habba retaliated.

“It’s a statewide trial,” Bream explained. “That’s it [Manhattan District Attorney] Alvin Bragg. If you think there’s a political motive to it, it’s not connected to the DOJ. I mean, the feds approved these election charges.”

After Habba suggested that records showing state officials in New York and Georgia visiting the White House were proof of political influence in Trump’s prosecution, Bream fired back, saying, “The feds went over those cases, that’s what I’m advocating.”

Trump faces 34 charges in New York related to allegations that he falsified business records to hide secret payments shortly before the 2016 election to women who said they had affairs with him.

The former president has pleaded not guilty in the hush money case and his political allies have repeatedly said the charges against him are political and designed to prevent him from winning a second term in the White House this fall.

A jury in New York began deliberating a verdict in the case on Wednesday morning.

Trump also faces two separate criminal cases over his efforts to remain in office after the 2020 election, as well as a federal case over the retention of White House records after the end of his term.
