President Biden responded to a shouted question about whether he would serve a full second term by asking whether the reporter who asked the question had fallen on his head.
“Are you okay? Are you okay? You’re not hurt, are you?” Biden said after landing in Philadelphia on Wednesday. Biden first paused and pointed to his head before speaking in response to a question shouted at him asking, “Will you serve your full four-year term or hand over your power to Vice President Harris?”
New York Post reporter Steven Nelson was heard on audio of the conversation asking if Biden could address the assembled media members so they could hear his response.
“I said, are you okay? Did you fall on your head or something? Biden said, without approaching the media.
Biden was alongside Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) during the interaction.
Biden, 81, has faced concerns about his age and whether he will be president for another four years — a term that would end when he is 86.
Harris, when asked if she is ready for the role, said she is “ready to serve” in a February interview.
The president’s health was in the spotlight at the time, after special counsel Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s handling of classified documents called the president an “elderly man with a poor memory.”
Biden is no stranger to responding to White House reporters. In August, the president told Fox News’ Peter Doocy that he asked a “terrible question” when he asked about his son, Hunter Biden, and his businesses.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment on Biden’s comment on Wednesday.
