President Biden on Friday rejected former President Trump’s claims that he is responsible for Trump’s legal troubles after Trump was found guilty of 34 criminal charges in New York.

“I didn’t know it was that powerful,” Biden said when asked by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy about Trump’s claims.

Biden told Doocy he had “no idea” whether the New York conviction would help Trump in the November election. Asked if he was worried about the possibility of one day being indicted after his presidency, Biden said: “No way.”

“I didn’t do anything wrong. The system still works,” Biden said.

A jury found Trump guilty of 34 criminal charges that included accounting entries in his business records that prosecutors said covered up reimbursement to his then-attorney Michael Cohen, who paid porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election to keep silent about a alleged affair from a decade earlier.

The 12-person jury in the silent trial returned its verdict late Thursday afternoon after deliberations lasted approximately 11 hours.

In comments Friday morning, Trump claimed his legal troubles were being orchestrated by Biden “and his people,” although there is no evidence that the Biden White House played a role in the case brought by New York state.

“I don’t know if Biden knows much about this, because I don’t know if he knows much about anything,” Trump said. “But he is still the president, so we have to use his name.”

Trump went on to repeatedly criticize the trial as “rigged” and a “fraud” and said he would appeal.

Biden on Friday called Trump’s rhetoric “irresponsible” and “reckless.”

“Our judicial system must be respected and we must never allow anyone to overthrow it; it’s that simple,” he added.
