Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the Democratic Party’s biggest fundraiser Saturday night in Los Angeles to express their outrage over President Biden’s Gaza policies in the war between Israel and Hamas.
Biden is participating in a fundraiser hosted by actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts at the Peacock Theater that raised a record $28 million before the event began, according to Biden’s campaign.
In a statement to The Hill, Biden’s campaign wrote that “the President believes that making his voice heard and participating in our democracy is fundamental to who we are as Americans. He shares the goal of ending violence and a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. He is working tirelessly toward that end.”
Two Twitter accounts affiliated with the protest posted videos of groups of people protesting outside the fundraiser.
“A large number of pro-Palestine protesters gathered in front of the Peacock Theater to protest Joe Biden’s planned fundraiser,” wrote the Glendale Project in X.
The video shows people shouting: “Biden, Biden, we want a ceasefire.”
Protesters were seen gathering around 5pm PT, and the event itself began at 6pm. It is unclear how many people were present at the protest.
The Secret Service was not immediately available for comment.
Earlier this week, Vice President Harris’ appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was interrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters, who shouted things like “15,000 children killed because of you!” and “Stop the genocide!”
Gaza has become a hot political topic in recent months, with more than 200 camps springing up on college campuses across the country in protest against U.S. policy in Gaza.
