Anthony Scaramucci criticized former President Trump’s choice of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate on Monday, calling the decision “the first obvious mistake” by the Trump campaign since securing the Party’s nomination. Republican.

“First obvious mistake by Trump and the team since he was nominated,” said Scaramucci, who briefly served as Trump’s White House communications director and has emerged as a critic of the former president. wrote in social platform X following news that Trump would select Vance.

“Trump didn’t want anyone who could take any credit for his electoral success. Or failure”, Scaramucci said in a subsequent post. “I look forward to the next national debate about our democracy, election lies and the future of this incredible country.”

Vance and Trump were officially nominated to the Republican ticket on Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Trump’s selection of Vance was widely seen as cementing the “MAGA” ticket for the Republican Party.

The 39-year-old first-term senator was elected in 2022 after winning a closely contested primary with the help of Trump’s endorsement. Ideologically, Vance’s brand of conservatism has a more populist bent, and he has embraced Trump’s “America First” perspective on foreign policy, especially his opposition to aid to Ukraine.

A Navy veteran and graduate of Yale Law School, Vance first gained fame for his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy: Memoirs of a Family and Culture in Crisis,” which detailed his experience growing up surrounded by poverty and addiction and gained popularity as political observers sought to understand Trump’s rise in 2016.

Scaramucci has criticized Vance in the past.

After Vance traveled to New York to support Trump in his criminal trial, Scaramucci labeled the Republican senator a “cowardly sycophant” and said Trump was “destroying the Republican Party.”

“So there are … very few people left with steadfastness in that party,” Scaramucci said in a CNN interview in May. “And those people out there are just cowardly sycophants.”
