MSNBC political analyst Michael Steele said Thursday that “Democrats need to administer the last rites” to Biden’s presidency as the conversation continues about President Biden’s fitness and ability to defeat former President Trump in November.

“At this point, Democrats need to administer last rites to the Biden presidency and move forward,” said Steele, a former Republican National Committee chairman who endorsed Biden in 2020. said in a post on social platform X.

“I have never seen a bunch of politically clumsy incompetents torch their nominees and themselves with such majesty and still think they will be competitive when they have not demonstrated even a modicum of strategy to indicate that they know how to move forward once the coup is over,” Steele added. in your post.

Steele’s post came in response to an article from The Hill about MSNBC host Joe Scarborough saying on his show Thursday that Democrats are showing frustration with those around Biden, who he said “are keeping him in a bubble” amid growing calls for him to pull out of the 2024 presidential race.

“You know, it’s really the responsibility of the people around Joe Biden to step in at this point and help the president. Help the man they love and do the right thing. This won’t end well if it continues to drag on. Look at the events of yesterday,” Scarborough said on “Morning Joe,” the day after the president tested positive for COVID-19.

Biden has faced political headwinds after a difficult presidential debate performance last month that raised concerns about his age, mental fitness and ability to win back the White House in the fall. There were growing calls among Democrats in the House and Senate for him to drop out of the race after his shaky debate performance.

An Emerson College poll published Thursday found the president is trailing Trump nationally and in seven swing states.

Biden has insisted he will remain in the race, indicating in an interview on Wednesday that he would only reconsider his decision to do so if he heard from a doctor that he had a health problem.
