President Biden said Friday that former President Trump offered a “bleak vision for the future” during his speech at the Republican National Convention, firmly stating that he will not drop out of the 2024 race.

“Last night the American people saw the same Donald Trump they rejected four years ago. For more than 90 minutes, he focused on his own grievances, with no plan to bring us together and no plan to make life better for working people,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden has insisted he will beat Trump again in November, amid growing calls for the president to abandon the Democratic ticket. Pleas from members of his party grew louder Friday as Sen. Martin Heinrich (N.M.) became the third Democratic senator to push for Biden to step aside and four House Democrats issued a joint statement urging the president to end his bid for re-election.

“Donald Trump’s bleak vision for the future is not who we are as Americans. Together, as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the polls,” Biden said.

“I lookLooking forward to getting back to the campaign next weekcontinue to expose the threat of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, while defending my own record and the vision I have for America: one where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunities for all ”, he added. .

Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday while campaigning in Las Vegas and isolating at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

The president also noted Friday that Trump “avoided mentioning his Project 2025 agenda but still proudly displayed the worst of MAGA extremism,” echoing his campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon’s response to the former’s speech. -chairman at the RNC on Thursday night.

O’Malley Dillon said Trump “didn’t mention Project 2025 even once.” Biden’s campaign sought to link the former president to the Heritage Foundation’s controversial conservative policy plan, while Trump and his team have aggressively tried to distance themselves from him.

Biden’s world was straining on Friday, challenging that he would not give up as reports circulated that he was making an announcement to step aside in the coming days.
