House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) is expected to visit the site of the recent assassination attempt on former President Trump, according to a press office for the committee on Saturday.

“This Committee continues to seek answers from [Department of Homeland Security] and the Secret Service for the security failures that resulted in the near assassination of former President Trump and the tragic murder of Corey Comperatore,” Green said in the statement, referring to a man who lost his life in the shooting. “We will visit the scene on Monday morning to better understand how this near-murder occurred.”

According to the press office, Green will go to the site in Butler, Pennsylvania, alongside 10 other members of his committee.

Trump was hit by a bullet in the ear during the shooting and was seen with a bandage on his ear during the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee last week.

The Secret Service has faced scrutiny following the shooting, with some questioning how the shooter gained access to a rooftop that had a clear line of sight to Trump.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called for new leadership at the Secret Service on Wednesday.

“The near assassination of former President Trump last week was a serious attack on American democracy,” McConnell said in a post on the social platform X. “The nation deserves answers and accountability. New leadership at the Secret Service would be an important step in that direction.”

In Oval Office comments the day after the shooting, President Biden said that “the political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated.”

“It’s time to calm things down,” Biden said in his remarks. “This places an additional burden on all of us, for no matter how strong our convictions are, we must never fall into violence.”
