Most Americans believe that former President Trump is being treated differently than most criminal defendants in their silence case, according to a new CNN poll.

Trump’s secret trial began last Monday, marking the first criminal trial of a former American president. He was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with reimbursements to his lawyer at the time, Michael Cohen, who paid an adult film star $130,000 before the 2016 election to keep silent about an alleged affair with Trump. , which he denies. .

Another recent poll by The Economist/YouGov found that 24% of Americans surveyed think the former president will be convicted of a crime in the silence case, 36% said they do not think the former president will be convicted, and 39% said he will not they were sure.

The same poll concluded that 43 percent of Americans surveyed think that Trump should be convicted of a crime in the case, 37 percent think he should not be and 20 percent are not sure.

After the second day of jury selection at his trial, Trump referred to the reimbursements as a “legal expense,” placing some blame on his accountants.

“I was paying a lawyer and we marked that off as a legal expense – some accountant. I didn’t know,” Trump told reporters. “Mark this as a legal expense. That was exactly it. And you were indicted for this?

The CNN poll was carried out by SSRS between April 18 and 23, with a sample of 1,212 respondents and a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
