Utah Senator Mitt Romney (R) criticized other members of his party who recently attended former President Trump’s secret trial in New York.

“I think it’s a little humiliating to appear in front of a court and – especially one where we’re talking about an allegation of payments to a porn star,” Romney said. he said in a Wednesday Politico video clip.

Romney’s disapproving comments also follow similar words from fellow Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) about her fellow Republicans who visited Trump’s trial in New York. The Utah Republican also called the party members who attended Trump’s trial “very difficult to watch.”

“There is a level of dignity and decorum that you expect from people who are running for the highest office in the land, and to go out and prostrate yourself in front of the public to try to, apparently, curry favor with the person who is our nominee, is a little embarrassing.” , Romney said.

Republicans who joined the former president at his secret trial recently include House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Senators J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Rick Scott (R-Florida) and Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida).

Johnson resisted the silent trial in comments outside the Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday.

“This is the fifth week that President Trump has been in court for this farce of a trial. They are doing this intentionally to keep him here and off the campaign trail,” Johnson said. “And I think everyone in the country can see that for what it really is.”

Trump’s trial in New York began last month, marking the first criminal trial of an American president. The former president was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with reimbursements to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who paid an adult film star $130,000 before the 2016 election to keep silent about an alleged affair with Trump, which he denies. .
