Hunter Biden’s lawyers have asked the judge overseeing his California tax case to delay the trial, which is scheduled for June, until September or later.
Earlier this week, Biden lost his bid to postpone the federal gun trial in Delaware, with the district judge ruling that the trial will continue as scheduled in June. The 3third The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this month rejected his attempt to dismiss the gun charges.
Biden is accused of engaging in a tax conspiracy in his California case, which he is now asking to be postponed to allow time between the two trials.
His lawyers said in a filing that Biden’s lawyer will be in Delaware for the other case until at least June 14. The California case is scheduled to begin June 20, but the pretrial dates overlap.
“Mr. Biden needs a limited postponement of the converging deadlines and is asking for a brief extension for the first time,” his lawyers wrote.
Biden’s lawyers are asking federal judge Marc Scarsi to delay the trial until September 5. Scarsi said he would hear requests to modify the schedule on May 29.
Last month, Scarsi ruled against Biden’s attempt to eliminate tax assessments in California. It was Biden’s eighth attempt.
He faces three felony charges and six misdemeanor charges related to tax evasion, as well as filing a false return and failing to pay taxes between 2016 and 2019.
