Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) said he and other Republicans went to former President Trump’s secret trial in New York City because of a gag order the former president is under.

“And they have a gag order against him,” Good said on “Varney & Co.” from Fox Business. Friday. “That’s why we went up there, so we could say things…this corrupt judge isn’t allowing him to say it.”

Good was part of a large group of Republicans who traveled to Trump’s criminal trial in New York on Thursday, along with Reps. Matt Gaetz (Florida), Lauren Boebert (Colorado), Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Mike Waltz (Florida). , Eli Crane (Ariz.), Andy Ogles (Tenn.), Anna Paulina Luna (Florida) and Ralph Norman (SC).

Trump is currently under a gag order in the silent trial that prevents him from publicly commenting on witnesses, prosecutors, court staff and the family of Judge Juan Merchan.

“This is a judge who seems to have all the high-profile conservative judgments up there,” Good continued in the Fox Business interview. “And his own daughter is making — raising … tens of millions of dollars for the Democratic party, with this very trial.”

Merchan’s daughter, Loren, served as an executive at a progressive political consulting firm that worked for Democrats including President Biden and Vice President Harris.

Other Republicans, including Senators JD Vance (Ohio), Tommy Tuberville (Ala.), House Speaker Mike Johnson (La.) and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, also recently attended Trump’s secret trial.

Johnson resisted the silent trial in comments outside the Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday.

“This is the fifth week that President Trump has been in court for this farce of a trial. They are doing this intentionally to keep him here and off the campaign trail,” Johnson said. “And I think everyone in the country can see that for what it really is.”
