Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) confirmed on social media that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was named in the 2020 state election case against him.
“The last defendant was summoned a moment ago. @RudyGiuliani no one is above the law”, Mayes posted on social media platform
Mayes was responding to Giuliani’s now-deleted post. He said “if Arizona authorities cannot find me by tomorrow morning: 1. They should dismiss the charge; 2. They must admit they cannot count votes.”
Guiliani, along with other Trump allies and Arizona Republicans, has been charged with allegedly trying to stop the legal transfer of power in the 2020 presidential election. Prosecutors say they created a scheme to have fake voters falsely claim voter fraud, so that authorities Arizona voters felt pressured to overturn the results.
The other defendants had already been indicted, but Giuliani could not be reached to be summoned the accusation. Prosecutors say they were unable to find the former mayor-turned-lawyer so they could officially subpoena him or formally notify him that he had been criminally charged.
Online users pointed out that Giuliani, who held a live broadcast online for his 80th birthdayth birthday, was wearing the same tie in his now-deleted post, taunting Arizona authorities.
He was hosting a birthday party in Palm Beach, Florida, with nearly 75 guests, when two employees from Mayes’ office attended to him around 11 p.m. sources told The New York Post.
The Hill has reached out to Giuliani’s spokesperson for comment.
