Trump attacks ‘The Apprentice’ with cease and desist, tries to block release

Former President Trump’s lawyers sent a cease and desist letter to the filmmakers behind the new biopic “The Apprentice” following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week, according to multiple reports Friday.

According to the varietyFirst reported in the letter, Trump’s team is trying to block the release of “The Apprentice” and is warning its producers not to try to find a distributor for the film, which stars “Captain America: The Soldier” star Sebastian Stan. Winter” as a young Trump and “Succession” alum Jeremy Strong as famous lawyer Roy Cohn.

“The film presents itself as a factual biography of Mr. Trump, but nothing could be further from the truth,” says the letter to director Ali Abbasi and screenwriter Gabriel Sherman. according to the deadline.

“It is a hodgepodge of lies that repeatedly defame President Trump and constitute direct foreign interference in America’s elections,” the letter says. “If you do not immediately cease and desist from all distribution and marketing of this defamatory hoax, we will be forced to pursue all appropriate legal remedies.”

In a statement to Variety, the film’s producers called it “a fair and balanced portrait of the former president.”

The Hill has reached out to Trump’s lawyers, the Trump campaign and the filmmakers of “The Apprentice” for further comment.

The film received an eight-minute standing ovation after its premiere at Cannes.
