Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) pressured New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) to pardon former President Trump following his recent conviction in his secret trial.

“Donald Trump is a serial liar, cheat and philanderer, a six-time corporate bankruptcy filer, an insurrection instigator and a convicted felon who thrives on portraying himself as a victim,” Phillips he said in a post on the social platform X Friday. “@GovKathyHochul should pardon him for the good of the country.”

Trump became the first former US president to be granted convicted felon status on Thursday after a jury found him guilty on all counts of falsifying business records to hide alleged affairs during his 2016 campaign.

Shortly after the jury read the verdict, Trump railed against the hush money trial, calling it “rigged” and “shameful.”

“Do you think forgiving is stupid?” Phillips, also a former presidential candidate, he said in a Saturday post on X. “Making him a martyr over a payment to a porn star is stupid. (The election charges are entirely different.) It is energizing its base, generating record sums of campaign money, and will likely result in an electoral boost.”

Trump’s son, Eric Trump, boasted about his father’s campaign fundraising numbers following the former president’s conviction in the case on Friday.

“What’s really incredible, let’s go back to 2016 for a second, the biggest fundraiser in history up to that point, we did in one day, you know, $16 million,” Eric Trump told Fox News’ Jesse Watters.

“And a few minutes ago, we just announced $52.8 million in 24 hours and we’re probably another five, six million dollars above that, based on the fact that this was exactly 24 hours after the arraignment time, which was around 5:30 [p.m.],” Trump continued.

The Hill reached out to Phillips’ office.
