Michael Cohen said people should fear that “open-mouthed” former President Trump would be arrested after his conviction on Thursday because he could reveal U.S. “secrets” that could endanger national security.

Cohen, who is Trump’s former mediator and was the prosecution’s star witness, said he is not concerned about the former president’s safety if he goes to prison, but is concerned about Trump leaking confidential information to gain benefits. financial or “bragging rights”.

“Now you have a leading Republican candidate, who is a criminal, who is going to be grilled on national security issues, knowing how loud-mouthed he is,” Cohen said during his Saturday appearance on MSNBC’s “The Weekend.”

“How willing he is to reveal America’s secrets to Vladimir Putin, or anyone, for money or simply to brag,” he continued. “He did it to the Australian billionaire at Mar-a-Lago. He sat there in Helsinki with Vladimir Putin talking about national security issues, but there was no one around except Vladimir Putin’s translator.”

Trump was convicted of all 34 criminal charges in Manhattan on Thursday, with the New York jury finding him guilty on all counts of falsifying business records to hide his alleged affairs during the 2016 presidential race. The former president’s sentencing was scheduled for July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention (RNC) takes place, where Trump is expected to be officially crowned as the party’s nominee.

Cohen, who is an outspoken critic of Trump, said Trump would reveal secrets since he doesn’t care about the country,

“I mean, these are not normal things,” Cohen said. “You don’t allow someone like Donald Trump to be disqualified, especially now as a criminal. So, my concern is that, in a prison situation, he would be willing to give up these secrets, as I always say, for a bag of tuna or a book of stamps. He’ll do it because he doesn’t care.”

“If America turns against him, he would rather see America burned to the ground,” he said. “And that’s what Donald Trump is.”
