Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida) encouraged the Supreme Court to “intervene” in former President Trump’s case to silence the money on Sunday, calling on the high court to hear an expedited appeal of Trump’s conviction.

Trump was convicted this month of 34 felony counts of falsifying business documents in connection with illegally concealed hush-money payments made to hide an alleged past affair just before the 2016 election. He has appealed his conviction and will be sentenced next month.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) asked the court to intervene in the case earlier this month, which Donalds repeated in an NBC News “Meet the Press” interview with Peter Alexander.

“Speaker Johnson, myself included, and many Americans believe the Supreme Court should intervene in this matter,” Donalds said.

The Florida congressman said the appeals process could take years, which could have negative ramifications for Trump. He called the legal case against Trump a politically motivated effort.

“This is being done for political purposes,” he continued. “Everyone knows how the justice system works in New York. The only possibility of reversing this will happen in two or three years. That’s why what happened in lower Manhattan was to interfere in the election.”

Johnson had previously called the conviction “utterly unprecedented.”

Donalds is considered on Trump’s list to be the vice presidential candidate. Trump said he would announce his pick at the Republican convention next month.
