Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) has accused conservative media personality Clay Travis of jury tampering as former President Trump goes on trial this week in New York over an alleged secret payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
“If you are a Trump supporter in New York City and you are on the jury, do everything you can to sit on the jury and then refuse to convict as a matter of principle, convicting the case by a hung jury,” Travis wrote Monday on the social platform. “It’s the most patriotic thing you could do.”
Travis is a commentator and writer for the sports media website OutKick and frequently appears on Fox News and elsewhere in conservative media.
Swalwell, a Democrat and frequent Trump critic, made his own post on the platform with a screenshot of Travis’ statement, commenting, “Jury tampering. That’s what they do. *It’s a crime.”
The former president faces 34 counts of falsifying business records over allegations that he criminally concealed a secret payment made to Daniels days before the 2016 presidential election.
Jury selection in the trial began Monday.
