The judge overseeing former President Trump’s federal election interference case has scheduled a hearing for August 16 at 10 a.m., which Trump is not required to attend.

In an order filed Saturday, obtained by The Hill, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan announced the new meeting will be a status conference.

After the Supreme Court granted immunity to former presidents last month, Trump’s case was on hold. Now, with the announcement of Chutkan, it looks like everything is back on track.

All parties will submit a status report by August 9, which jointly proposes a possible timeline for “advancing the pre-trial process.”

“If necessary, the parties will be able to explain any disagreements in separate sections of the report,” Chutkan said.

The case is not expected to come to trial before this fall’s presidential election. With the Supreme Court’s decision, the judge will be able to assess how the decision affects the specifics of the case.

Trump’s case was returned to Chutkan and the trial court after the Supreme Court’s 32-day waiting period ended.

The next steps are unclear, but Trump’s team has insisted that its lawsuits should wait until after the election. The new deadlines will give an idea of how Special Counsel Jack Smith plans to proceed with the immunity issue.

In the past, Chutkan has rejected Trump’s attempts to delay the case, saying the election would not influence his timing decisions on the matter. There was a possibility that Chutkan would allow the case to go to trial before November, but the Supreme Court ruling distorted the timeline.

In his order, Chutkan denied Trump’s motion to dismiss the indictment on legal grounds and said he could file a new motion “once all immunity issues have been resolved.”

“The court will establish additional deadlines following the August 16, 2024 status conference,” she wrote.
