The political tension surrounding growing pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses will likely be the focus of this week’s Sunday news.

Two notable cases of campus violence amid protests occurred on Tuesday at Columbia University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), when the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the P.D. of Los Angeles (LAPD) cracked down. pro-Palestinian protesters at both schools.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D), who has previously claimed that “outside agitators” were involved in protests in Columbia, will appear on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. He was pressed on these claims by CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday, to which he responded that there was “clear evidence of training conducted by an outside agitator, who was not a student, not on campus.”

Collins also asked Adams if there was a “breakdown” on the part of Adams’ office or the NYPD about how many of the people arrested Tuesday were actually Columbia students.

“Here’s what we can do and are authorized to do,” Adams said. “We will give the complete list of those arrested and hand it over to the school, and the school will make the decision. We will not disclose the student’s name, but the school may decide to give you a breakdown… of the difference between students and non-students. They would have this authorization to do so.”

Earlier this week, the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) college outreach arm expressed solidarity with the pro-Palestinian protests on campuses and gave President Biden a warning about growing disillusionment with his party over how it is handling the current conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. .

“The White House took the wrong path from a bear hug strategy to [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] and a cold strategy for his own base and for all Americans who want to see an end to this war,” College Democrats of America said in a statement. “Every day that Democrats fail to remain united behind a permanent ceasefire, a two-state solution and the recognition of a Palestinian state, more and more young people become disillusioned with the party.”

There have been questions about whether Biden’s policy toward Gaza could actually affect the youth vote turnout needed for his 2024 campaign, and Biden campaign co-chair and former New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu may have to tackle these questions on the CNN program “State of the Union” this week.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (RS.D.) has been in the spotlight recently, but not just because she is a possible vice presidential pick for former President Trump’s 2024 campaign. Noem, who will appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation” this week, faced backlash for an anecdote from an upcoming book uncovered by The Guardian, in which she said she took a family dog to a quarry on her property and shot it. .

Noem, who called the dog “extremely dangerous,” wrote that it was “not a pleasant job” but “had to be done.”

Following Noem’s dog story going viral, a trio of lawmakers including Reps. Jared Moskowitz (D-Florida), Susan Wild, (D-Pa.) and Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) announced the start of a Congress dog lovers meeting/

“In light of recent events, we are launching the Congressional Dog Lovers Caucus today!” Moskowitz said in a post on social platform X. “This group dedicated to man’s best friend aims to promote bipartisan cooperation and will help get your hands on politics.”
