This week’s Sunday newscasts will likely focus on the ramifications of former President Trump’s conviction at his secret trial in New York earlier this week.

The former president became the first former US president to have convicted felon status on Thursday, after a jury found him guilty on all counts of falsifying business records to hide alleged affairs during his time in office. 2016 campaign.

The former president protested against the trial shortly after the verdict was read.

“This was a rigged and shameful trial. The real verdict will be given by the people on November 5th, and they know what happened here, and everyone knows what happened here,” Trump said.

Several prominent Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), have now criticized the verdict in the case. In a statement released Thursday, Johnson, who will appear on “Fox News Sunday” this week, said it was “a shameful day in American history.”

“The American people rightly see this as legal warfare and they know it is – and dangerous,” he added. “President Trump will rightly appeal this absurd verdict – and he WILL WIN.”

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R), who will appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation” this week and is considered a possible pick for Trump’s vice president, said the recent conviction is not giving him pause about the possibility of serving in another Trump administration.

“This isn’t giving me any pause, because I think we, everyone knows that it’s… very difficult to get a fair trial for Donald Trump in New York,” Burgum said. “Don’t give me a break.”

On Friday, President Biden announced the terms of an Israeli-led proposal that lays out a three-part roadmap toward concluding the fighting and releasing the remaining hostages taken on October 7, a strong signal toward a possible end for Israel. . -Hamas war.

“After the intense diplomacy carried out by my team, my many conversations with leaders of Israel, Qatar and Egypt, and other countries in the Middle East, Israel presented a new comprehensive proposal. It is a roadmap for a lasting ceasefire and the release of all hostages,” Biden said.

Biden said the proposal was transmitted to Hamas through Qatar, but signaled that Hamas has not yet formally accepted the plan.

“This is truly a defining moment. Israel made its proposal. Hamas says it wants a ceasefire – this agreement is an opportunity to prove whether they really mean it. Hamas needs to accept the deal,” Biden said.

White House national security communications adviser John Kirby, who has spoken frequently to the press about the Biden administration’s policy surrounding the Israel-Hamas war, will make an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.
