About 100 pro-Palestine protesters arrested at Northeastern University

About 100 protesters were arrested at Northeastern University on Saturday morning amid a pro-Palestine protest, according to the university.

Northeastern is one of many colleges across the country that has dealt with pro-Palestinian protests on its campuses, with students protesting the Israel-Hamas war and pressuring schools to disclose their investments.

The school said it took action to clear protest camps after “virulent anti-Semitic slurs” were incorporated into the protests.

“We cannot tolerate this type of hate on our campus,” the school statement said.

Huskies for a Free Palestine, the student organization leading the protest, said Saturday that the administration “quickly provided false narratives” regarding the camp.

“We are here because our university refuses to even address the catastrophic humanitarian crisis that the genocide against the Palestinians has created,” the group said. he said On Instagram. “The Northeast refuses to cut ties with weapons manufacturers who do business with the Israeli military.”

Videos posted by the group on Instagram show protesters chanting “Free Palestine, free” and police present on campus in riot gear.

Northeastern said in an update that Centennial Common was “fully secured” and that campus operations had returned to “normal.”
