Rap star Flavor Flav and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian helped an American Olympian who said she couldn’t pay her rent.
“I’m competing in the Olympics TOMORROW and I can’t even pay my rent… my school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay the football players (who didn’t win anything…) enough to buy new cars and houses ”, Veronica Fraley said in a Thursday post on social platform X.
Fraley is a disc launcher for the US track and field team. She attends Vanderbilt University and placed first in the discus at the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, according to the results of the competition.
“I get it… text me and I’ll send you payment TODAY so you don’t have to worry about it TOMORROW… and I’ll cheer you on tomorrow, COME ON,!!!” Flavor Flavor said in response to Fraley’s post on X.
First, Ohanian responded to that response, saying he would split the bill.
Ohanian then responded to Fraley’s post, featuring a screenshot of a $7,760 Venmo payment to the athlete.
“’MURICA,” Ohanian captioned the payment in the screenshot.
On a post Thursday afternoonFraley said he welcomed “the messages of support, but I want to clarify that my irritation is not with the school itself, especially with the rules that prevent me from earning the amount I am worth as a college athlete, as [name, image and likeness] … which favors popularity over performance.”
Flav flavor too republished a GoFundMe Fraley’s page titled “The Athletics Journey of Fuel Veronica Fraley.”
