Georgia Supreme Court Justice Andrew Pinson was re-elected on Tuesday, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Pinson fended off a challenge from former Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.), who challenged Pinson for his seat on the state’s high court. He was one of four judges up for re-election on the nine-member bench, but was the only one to see a close race.
Pinson was chosen by Gov. Brian Kemp (R) in 2022 for the Georgia Supreme Court and has previously served as a judge on the state Court of Appeals and as attorney general.
Barrow leaned heavily on the abortion issue and criticized the sitting judge for his stance on the issue. Pinson argued that Barrow misrepresented his record.
A complaint filed with the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission warned Barrow that he was going too far in what he could say about abortion as a candidate.
Barrow also bristled at accusations that he politicized a judicial race, telling The Hill in an interview about abortion that “it’s a constitutional issue, that’s not politicization.”
But the Georgia Democrat also faced an uphill battle, given that sitting judges rarely lose re-election.
