Elon Musk on Monday accused Vice President Harris of lying about former President Trump’s support for a national abortion ban after a community note was apparently added to a post from his campaign account.

“When will politicians, or at least the intern who manages their account, learn that lying on this platform no longer works?” Musk wrote on his social platform on Monday morning, attaching a screenshot of Harris’ statement with a community note adding context.

As of Monday afternoon, Harris’ post did not include a note from the community. It is unclear when and how long the note was there.

In her original post on Sunday, Harris wrote that “Donald Trump would ban abortion nationwide,” adding, “President @JoeBiden and I will do everything in our power to stop it and restore women’s reproductive freedom.”

Musk also commented directly on Harris’ X post, writing on Sunday night: “He clearly said he wouldn’t do this in the debate.”

Trump’s stance on abortion has been at the center of many campaign debates this cycle. For months he teased that he would announce his official position on the controversial issue, and in April he announced that abortion laws should be left to the discretion of states.

In that announcement, he avoided taking a stance on a federal abortion ban, but soon after said he would not sign such a ban, noting, “because we don’t need it anymore. Why We Broke Roe v. Wade Wade.

The Biden-Harris campaign reacted to Musk’s accusation, calling for previous reports about Trump signaling privately that he would support a 16-week ban, ahead of his official announcement on the matter.

The campaign also noted that Trump has repeatedly praised his role in overturning Roe v. Wade. Wade, pointing to the three justices he appointed who provided the majority needed to do so. The campaign also highlighted Trump’s numerous public statements on the issue in recent months.

“Elon Musk can Google: Donald Trump wants to ban abortion nationwide, allow his allies to ban medical abortion and contraception, and use government power to harass and punish women,” the spokesperson said. campaign, James Singer, in a statement.

“This election is a choice between codifying Roe and protecting women’s fundamental rights, and allowing extremist politicians to interfere in medical decisions and destroy freedoms,” Singer added.
