White House rewards authorities for combating illicit drug trafficking

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) on Friday awarded law enforcement officials and agencies for their work in disrupting the flow of illicit drugs, such as fentanyl, into the country.

The United States Interdiction Coordinator (USIC) awards recognized work in areas including cyber investigations, domestic investigations, international investigations, emerging threats, highway interdictions, and maritime interdictions.

“From day one, President Biden has taken historic steps and made historic investments to support law enforcement and drug crime prevention as part of his society-wide effort to address the overdose epidemic,” said the director. of ONDCP, Rahul Gupta, in a statement. .

“I am proud to honor the heroic efforts of these law enforcement leaders today who work tirelessly, 24 hours a day, to prevent deadly drugs from reaching our communities and harming vulnerable Americans,” he added. “The Biden-Harris Administration is grateful for your steadfast partnership and will continue to support life-saving law enforcement efforts to reduce overdoses, deprive drug traffickers of their profits, and keep Americans safe.”

Entities recognized Friday included the FBI Los Angeles Field Office, the Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, the DEA Miami Cyber ​​Anti-Narcotics Investigations Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations and the Guard US Coastal.

These offices conducted investigations targeting drug sellers on the darknet, dismantled regional drug trafficking operations, and disrupted complicit international financial brokers raising illicit funds.

“We are lucky to have you on our team. And the drug lords are really unlucky to go against you. And just as Apollo 11 prevailed, we will prevail,” Gupta told the awardees during the awards ceremony.
