Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to the US after the House passed a bill providing additional funds to Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russia.

“Today we received the long-awaited decision on the US aid package that we have been fighting for for a long time. And very significant,” Zelensky wrote on social media platform. “Our warriors on the front lines, as well as our cities and villages suffering from Russian terror, will feel it.”

“I thank everyone who supported our package, this is a solution to protect life”, he continued. “I personally thank Speaker Mike Johnson and every American heart who believes, as we do in Ukraine, that Russian evil must not be winning.”

The House on Saturday approved a series of foreign aid bills, marking a moral victory for the inexperienced House speaker, who took up the gavel less than six months ago. The package includes around $61 billion for Ukraine.

The move to provide more assistance to the Eastern European country has not been without obstacles. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who vehemently opposed the bill and criticized her colleagues after its passage, introduced a motion to vacate her speakership late last month.

The Georgia Republican has not yet given a timeline for when she might force a vote on her impeachment resolution, and her path forward has become cloudy after former President Trump endorsed Johnson.

The Speaker of the House also largely rejected the threat, calling it “absurd,” and moved forward with the series of bills despite conservative outcry.

Zelensky on Saturday pressed the Senate to pass the legislation quickly and send it to President Biden’s desk.

“We appreciate all signs of support for our country and its independence, people and way of life, which Russia is trying to bury under the rubble. America has demonstrated its leadership from the earliest days of this war,” he wrote in X. “Exactly this kind of leadership is necessary to maintain an international order based on rules and predictability for all nations.”

“We will undoubtedly use American assistance to strengthen both our nations and bring a just end to this war, the war that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin must lose,” added the Ukrainian leader.

Zelensky concluded: “The world supports Ukraine’s cause when Ukrainians unite in favor of independence.”

The Senate is expected to approve the package on Tuesday. They will also consider a motion to introduce the bills, introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah).
