Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) accused House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) of being “owned by Democrats” in an interview Sunday.
Asked why she thinks Johnson would not “defund Jack Smith,” referring to the special counsel who brought two indictments against President Trump, Greene said: “Mike Johnson is owned by the Democrats, and that proved me right again. ”.
“When I requested the motion to vacate, it was not the Republicans who saved Mike Johnson. It was the Democrats who saved Mike Johnson,” Greene said in an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo.
“And when you have Nancy Pelosi, who was Speaker of the House when they impeached President Trump twice, and you have Jerry Nadler, who was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee that led the impeachment against President Trump, voting to save Mike Johnson, that tells the American people everything they need to know,” she continued.
“Mike Johnson is owned by Democrats and refuses to protect President Trump, even though he goes to Mar-a-Lago every chance he gets and hugs him as tight as he can,” she added.
The House overwhelmingly rejected Greene’s effort last week to remove Johnson from office. Only 10 Republicans and 32 Democrats joined her in voting against House Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s (R-La.) motion to introduce his resolution, which ultimately prevented the removal resolution from reaching the floor for voting.
The chamber voted 359-43-7 to save Johnson in an overwhelming bipartisan vote.
The Hill reached out to Johnson’s office for a response.
